Corning estimates that about 85% of smartphone users have drop their smartphones at least once per year while 55% of smartphone owners drop their smartphones at least 3 times a year.
The next generation corning gorilla glass 5 will be able to withstand face-down drops of up to 1.6 meters. This is according to a recent promo video the company posted on their official YouTube account.
The corning gorilla glass 5 will be able to survive tougher drops and hence significantly enhances the lifespan of smartphones.
Corning says that the Gorilla Glass 5 will become commercially available before the end of 2016.
