The Samsung Galaxy Ace was good; the Galaxy Ace 2 was better, and the hot selling sequel continues.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 is the latest addition to Samsung’s range of mid-tier level Android Smartphones.

The handset comes with a very attractive price tag and abundance of features and is expected to turn tides specifically in emerging Smartphone markets such as Kenya and India.

Sit back; here is a comprehensive review of the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 Smartphone.

Galaxy Ace 3 Price in Kenya

DisplayThe Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 has a 4.0 inches TFT capacitive display that has a maximum resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. That is about a 0.2 inch bump from its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.

However, there was a slight drop in its resolution density when compared to its predecessor. The display is, however, quite bright and has some decent viewing angles.

It may be a long way off from the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, but just perfect for a budget range handset.

Body and Design

There is a significant increase in the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 polycarbonate frame. This was in order to match up with the larger display.

However, Samsung was able trim off about 0.5 mm in thickness and thus the device will fit perfectly into the pockets of your skinny denims.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 is also 7 grams lighter. The handset is available in black, white and Dark Red colors.

Technical Specifications

The phone now spots a 1 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU. This is a significant leap from the 800 MHz CPU found on the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.

The Ace 3 has a solid 1GB RAM, which is a bump from the 768MB RAM found on the Ace 2.

As a result, there should be a significant increase in the multi-tasking ability of the handset.

The device will come with 4GB internal memory, which is a characteristic of mid-tier devices. The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 will come with Jelly Bean version 4.2 out of the box.

The LTE version of the device can achieve download speeds of up to 42.2 MB/s while the 3G versions have their maximum speeds capped at 14.4 MB/s.

Other than the above, the rest of the tech specs of the Ace 3 are pretty much identical to the Ace 2.

However, it is worthwhile to mention that the device has the updated Bluetooth V 4.0 Chip thus you can expect better Bluetooth file transfer speeds and connectivity with other Bluetooth enable devices.

Our expectations for an 8MP snapper on the device were dashed as the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 has a 5MP camera. However, the camera comes bundled with an array of cool tweaks that will be quite fun to play around with.

Shooting video on the device delivers a decent 720p video quality with a 30 fps. Just like its predecessor, you will find a 0.3MP front facing camera on the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3.

Battery Life

A bump in the CPU clock speed should often precede a proportionate upturn in battery capacity. However, it is rather of a disappointment that the device is still stuck with a 1500mAh battery.

There is therefore a slight drop in battery stamina and a moderate day usage will lead to the device pinning for a charger by nightfall.

Tech Trends Diary Verdict

The noticeable change in the Ace 3 is its availability of an LTE version. LTE connectivity is still in the pipeline for Kenya thus the 3G version is still the only option.

The Ace 3 is also available in a dual SIM variant and thus a perfect option for those looking to get the best out of two carriers.

With all that said, the Galaxy Ace 3 cuts a unique niche for itself and it will be interesting to see how well the phone will do in the various Smartphone Markets.

    • Hi,

Yeah, that was an error, it should be something in the Ksh 19,000 range (depending on the retailer)

        • Okay, i see. Some Smartphone dealers aren’t even aware of its existence. I have tried checking around with a couple of my associates and they don’t have it. I think the best option is having the handset imported or looking for alternatives (Lumia! Lumia! Lumia!)
