We have here the iTel S11.
Have you previously heard of iTel Mobile? If you haven’t, it’s totally okay. Here is a brief low-down of the budget smartphone company.
iTel Mobile is an affiliate of Transsion (the mother company of Tecno Mobile) and has been around for quite a while. iTel has been putting much of its focus on feature phones but has recently embarked on an ambitious path to introduce a number of budget Android smartphones.
The iTel S11 is one of such devices and it’s marketed as a selfie smartphone. Here is my review of the smartphone.
The iTel S11 by the way cost, Ksh. 7,499.
Inside the box you will find;
- iTel S11
- AC Charger
- USB Cable
- Flip Cover
Rear Camera: 5.0 MP
Secondary Camera: 5.0 MP
LED Flash: Yes (Front and Back)
ITel Mobile did a fantastic job with the camera. At first impression, I honestly didn’t expect much from the camera, but after experiencing it, I totally liked it.
The clarity of the camera is awesome even in low light settings and I was really impressed by the performance since most budget smartphones have a really terrible camera profile.
You get a 5MP Rear camera for general photography and an identical 5MP camera for your selfies. The camera packs a number of auxiliary features such as Beauty, Photo, Panorama and Pro modes. The Pro mode is quite good and it includes toggles to tweak the Exposure value, ISO and White Balance.
The camera app, however, has pretty much the basic functions and I feel like Itel Mobile should have spent more time on the camera software. Here are some of the pictures captured by the iTel S11.
Display Size: 5.0-inch
Display Type: IPS LCD
Screen Resolution: 854 x 480 Pixels
Screen Resolution Density:
Screen Protection: None
You get a 5.0-inch IPS LCD display with an 854 x 480 Pixels resolution with the iTel S11. The clarity of the display is quite good and the smartphone has some pretty decent viewing angles.
A 5.0-inch display is quite petite especially in this age of large screened displays and it takes some time to get used to the smaller display especially if you are from using a Phablet.
The design of the iTel S11 is definitely one of the highlights of the smartphone. You get a frame that feels good and has a really nice appeal.
The back cover is made of Aluminum and removable. The main chassis is of polycarbonate construction, but still looks good. One thing that I noted with the S11 is that it takes quite some effort to remove the back cover.
Operating System: Android 6.0
CPU: 1.3GHz Quad-core
RAM: 1 GB
Internal Memory: 8 GB
Micro SD: Yes, up to 32 GB
A 1.3GHz Quad-core powers the iTel S11 and this is coupled with some 1GB RAM. The performance profile of the S11 is pretty much what you get from other devices within its price range, although there are a number of 2GB RAM smartphone priced under Ksh. 10,000.
Check out the Antuntu and Geekbench scores of the iTel S11.
You get 8GB of internal storage, which is quite mean considering that 16GB is now the standard for budget Android smartphones. However, the S11 comes with a micro-SD slot and thus you can choose to expand the storage to up to 32GB
The iTel S11 runs Android 6.0 out of the box. The OS is very close to the stock Android with minor customization here and there.
Battery and Extras
Battery Capacity: 2400mAh
A 2400mAh battery powers the iTel S11. The capacity is quite small when compared to what you can get from other manufacturers in the market. However, the iTel S11 software comes with a number of power management features that enables you to squeeze the most out of the smartphone.
The iTel S11 is a fine choice if you out shopping for a 7.5/10 budget Android smartphone while on a very tight budget.

The iTel S11 has a suggested retail price of Ksh. 7,499 in Kenya.
