Body and Design

From the design aspect, the  Samsung Galaxy Ace has some decent looks that would attract a couple of stares from a crowd. The all glossy plastic body measures at 114.5 x 62.5 x 11.2 mm and weighs in at 115 g. The ergonomic design of the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus allows the phone to fit perfectly into your hand making one-handed operations a cinch. The phone comes with a chrome-like strip around its edges. This coupled with the shiny plastic design givies the handset an inimitable feeling that evades most entry level handsets.

The Ace Plus comes with a larger 3.65- Inches 16M capacitive screen (0.15- Inches bigger than the Galaxy Ace). Despite the larger display  the resolution is at 158 ppi pixel density, which is about 7 units less than its predecessor. Another disappointment is that the phone lacks a corning gorilla glass for protection against scratches hence a screen protector comes in handy.

Technical Specifications

OS and CPUJust like its predecessor, the phone comes shipped with Android Gingerbread. However, unlike the Galaxy Ace, the OS is upgradable to Ice Cream sandwich (v. 4.0). On the CPU the phone comes packed with a Cortex A5 processor clocked at 1GHz. This is a big leap from the 800 MHz processor found on the Galaxy Ace. The phone however maintains the Adreno 200 Graphical processing unit.

The phone maintains the exact memory specs of the Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos, i.e. 3 GB internal memory and 512MB of RAM. However, the phone does not come bundled with a 2GB microSD card as offered on the Galaxy Ace.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus supports GPRS, EDGE and 3G networks. The phone can handle data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on the 3G network. The Galaxy Ace Plus comes with a powerful Bluetooth V3.0 chip on board and WI-FI 802.11 b/g/n plus hot spot functionality for tethering with other WI-FI enabled devices.

The Galaxy Ace plus still maintains the 5MP Autofocus Camera. However, unlike the Galaxy Ace, the Camera can now capture video at a 30 fps frame rate compared to the 24 fps found on the Galaxy Ace. The camera and video quality is pleasant to look at and deliver some warm colors.

The phone comes with inbuilt scene modes such as Panorama and Continuous mode shooting.

Music Player

The Galaxy Ace Plus music player offers some basic functions with the TouchWiz 4.0 UI enhancing some of its features. With an inbuilt equalizer plus superb sound quality, the music player definitely does a perfect job on that.

Battery Life

The phone comes with a Standard battery Li-Ion 1300 mAh, a slightly smaller capacity as compared to the standard 1350 mAh battery found on the Galaxy Ace. Despite the smaller battery capacity, the phone still maintains a decent battery life especially while on moderate use.

Tech Trends Diary Verdict

With a powerful 1Ghz processor, 512 of RAM and 3GB of internal memory, Samsung definitely drives a fair barter to users. The Galaxy Ace Plus is a perfect phone for first time Samsung Android Smartphones Users or an upgrade for existing owners of budget Android handsets such as the Galaxy Pocket.
