Article-Update

Here is what the HTC Desire 320 has to offer.

HTC Desire 320 Technical Specifications

Display

Display Size: 4.5 inches

Display Type: TFT capacitive touchscreen

Screen Resolution: 480 x 854 pixels

Screen Resolution Density: 218 ppi

Screen Protection: None

You get a 4.5-inch TFT capacitive display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. This is not at all impressive considering that there are other numerous budget smartphones sporting a more refined display profile.

Design

Frame Dimensions: 132 x 67.8 x 10.5 mm

Weight: 145g

HTC is a market leader in terms of sophistication in design. The HTC Desire 320 comes in a candy bar design featuring well rounded corners and a glossy polycarbonate exterior.

You can’t really say that the design is striking, but I consider it satisfactory taking into account that the Desire 320 is one of the cheapest HTC smartphone on the market.

Performance

Operating System: Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat)

CPU: Quad-core 1.3 GHz

RAM: 512 MB

Internal Memory: 4 GB

Micro SD: Yes, up to 32 GB

The highlighted feature of the HTC Desire 320 is that it runs Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat) out of the box. This is in fact a highlight since it launched at a time when Android KitKat was the latest available version of Android.

A 1.3 GHZ Quad Core CPU powers the HTC Desire 320 which is super impressive. However, what I didn’t like about the HTC Desire 320 is that it has a paltry 512 MB of RAM at an age when vendors are actively discontinuing ‘low memory’ smartphones from their catalogues.

Camera

Rear Camera: 5 MP

Secondary Camera: VGA

LED Flash: None

The HTC Desire 320 has a 5 MP rear camera that captures images at a 2592 х 1944 pixels resolution. You can’t really poke holes about that, but what is irritating is that the Desire 320 has a VGA camera for self-shots AKA selfies.

The use of a VGA camera as secondary camera is a very risky move as younger smartphone buyers are now attracted to devices that offer a flawless selfie experience. Therefore, most would consider the use of a VGA camera a deal breaker.

Battery and Extras

Battery Capacity: Li-Ion 2100 mAh

It was awesome that HTC decided on a 2100 mAh battery for the Desire 320. This works well in boosting the battery performance of the smartphone.

Verdict

HTC just like Apple, is all about designing premium smartphones. This core competency is clearly evident in its upper mid-range and high-end smartphones.

The downside to that competency is that HTC struggles to design entry-level smartphones. The HTC Desire 320 is, however, still a fine smartphone if you take its price tag into account.

However, once you consider what its price tag can get you in the market, you are simply left with brand loyalty as the main reason why you should ignore its rivals and go for it.
