Article-Update

Here is what the Microsoft Lumia 535 has to offer.

Microsoft Lumia 535 Technical Specifications

Display

Display Size: 5 Inches

Display Type: IPS LCD

Screen Resolution: 960 x 540 qHD

Screen Resolution Density: 220 ppi

Screen Protection: Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3

The 5.0 Inch display is one of the highlighted features of the Microsoft Lumia 535. The display is one inch larger than what you will find on its predecessor, the Nokia Lumia 530.

Microsoft additionally upped the display resolution from the 480 x 854 pixels you will find from the Lumia 530.

The Lumia 535 display is, however, an IPS LCD and not an Amoled as most would have wished for. The display is thus of satisfactory quality but not as crisp as what you would find on the Lumia 730.

It is, however, very impressive that Lumia 535 has a Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 layer. Most devices in its price range will in most instances sport an outdated version of Corning Gorilla Glass or simply lack any.

Design

Frame Dimensions: 140.2 x 72.4 x 8.8 mm

Weight: 146 g

The Lumia 535 sports the typical Nokia Windows Phone design that features a brightly colored exterior with some well rounded corners.

It is worthwhile to mention that the Microsoft Lumia 535 is the first Windows Phone device to come with the Microsoft Logo and Microsoft branded packaging materials.

Performance

Operating System: Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim update

CPU: Quad-core 1.2GHz

RAM: 1 GB

Internal Memory: 8 GB

Micro SD: Yes, up to 128 GB

The Microsoft Lumia 535 is the first Windows Phone device to come with the Lumia Denim update out of the box. The Lumia Denim update is the latest after the Lumia Cyan update that Microsoft started seeding out in July 2014.

The 1.2GHz Quad Core sits pretty on the Lumia 535 and powers the device just fine. The Microsoft Lumia 535 has 1 GB RAM, which is almost double what you will find on the Lumia 530.

Microsoft decided on 8 GB of internal memory as opposed to just the 4 GB that is offered with the Lumia 530. The Microsoft Lumia 535 can, just like the Samsung Galaxy S5 take in a massive 128 GB Micro SD Card.

Camera

Rear Camera: 5.0 MP

Secondary Camera: 5.0 MP

LED Flash: Yes

The Microsoft Lumia 535 is all about big and better selfies. The 5 MP selfie camera is a major upgrade from the non-existent secondary camera on the Lumia 530.

Selfies are kind of a big deal for millennials and recently a 5MP front facing camera has become pretty much of a standard for mid-range devices.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 just like the Huawei Honor 6 Plus has the exact camera on the front and back. You will hardly notice the difference between images captured by two cameras.

Battery and Extras

Battery Capacity: 1905 mAh

The Li-Ion 1905 mAh battery is an upgrade from the Li-Ion 1430 mAh battery found on the Lumia 530. The Windows Phone is more power efficient than the other mobile operating systems, not to mention names (Android).

The battery, thus packs in enough battery juice to power the device throughout the day.

Extras

Dual SIM

Verdict

Microsoft is more about Software than Hardware. Microsoft has a history of flopped products skeptics might have expected the same when the Redmond-based Tech Giant took over Nokia.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 is, however, evidence enough that indeed the company can make decent Smartphones. It was rather interesting that Microsoft cherry-picked a budget device first before unveiling a high-end one.

Latest data has, however, revealed that high end Windows Phone devices aren’t selling that well and that might be the reason behind the move. Microsoft is now clearly about gaining market share and brand visibility in emerging smartphone markets as opposed focusing on profitability.

With such a strategy buyers should expect even more affordable priced devices from Microsoft.
