The Samsung Galaxy S8 is finally here.

Article-Update

After weeks of leaks and teasing Samsung unveiled their 2017 flagship smartphone. The Galaxy S8 was one of the most anticipated device of this year as it meant to cover the vacuum left by the mass recalling on the faulty Galaxy Note 7.

That said, here is what the smartphone has to offer.

Samsung went big with the display profile of the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.9-inch display, up from the 5.1-inch display found on the Galaxy S7.

The move to include a larger display is quite commendable considering that bigger smartphone displays are now in vogue. The S8 has a 2960 x 1440 Pixels resolution, which is quite good since it is the current market standard for high-end smartphones.

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the highlights of the smartphone. You get what Samsung describes as an ‘Infinity’ display due to the impressive experience brought about by the lack of prominent bezels. It’s an effect similar to what the Xiaomi Mi Mix offers.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has one of the best screen resolution densities you can find on smartphones right now. It’s noteworthy that the Samsung Galaxy S8 doesn’t come with a 1920 x 1080 Pixel resolution by default, but you can adjust the resolution upwards to the 2K resolution in the settings.

The move is probably to improve the battery life of the smartphone since it does take a large amount of battery juice to power the a 2K display.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a sleek and neat design that gives the smartphone a premium look and feel. The most significant change in the design of the S8 is the placement of the fingerprint sensor at the back of the smartphone as opposed to the traditional position at the front.

Samsung had to do this due to the ultra-thin bezels but the decision already has critics since it’s a clear ergonomics fail.

An Octa-core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad) chipset powers the Samsung Galaxy S8. This is coupled with some 4GB RAM. The performance profile of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is almost identical to the one found on the S7.

You get 64 GB as internal storage and a Micro-SD slot that can handle up to 256 GB of memory. Another awesome feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is Bluetooth 5.0. The S8 is the first smartphone to feature the tech and Bluetooth 5.0 promises a couple of benefits such as being able to connect to two Bluetooth enabled devices at once.

The other amazing feature is the Dex functionality. Through the Samsung DeX, you connect the smartphone to a monitor and use the Galaxy S8 as a PC, very cool!

Camera

Battery and Extras

Battery Capacity: 3000mAh

The battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the weakest points of the smartphone. You have a 3000mAh battery that will power a 5.8-inch 2K display. That obviously doesn’t augur well and it will be interesting how the battery performs.

Extras

Fingerprint Sensor
