The WhatsApp encryption feature is a result of a partnership between the company and Open Whisper Systems. The end-to-end encryption feature is currently exclusive to the WhatsApp Android version and it is unclear on when it will become available on the other platforms.

So why should you care about the end-to-end encryption feature?

The end to end feature makes your WhatsApp texts more secure than messages sent over Gmail and Facebook. With end-to-end encryption ONLY the WhatsApp users involved have access to the messages exchanged.

This will make WhatsApp unable to pass over your chats to law enforcement agencies even when compelled to do so. At close to 600 Million users, WhatsApp has become the largest messaging platform to use the end-to-end encryption feature.

The project to include end-to-end encryption on WhatsApp has been one of the largest for the company and it took the company about six months to deploy the service.

Online privacy has been one of the trending features of late. Google made device encryption default for devices running Android 5.0
