Safaricom has partnered with the Dot Corporation to unveil a braille smartwatch that allows visually impaired Safaricom subscribers access M-Pesa transaction messages.
M-Pesa is one of the main payment systems in Kenya and its convenience is unrivaled. Therefore, the move to unveil the option is thoughtful and is also an important move towards inclusivity.
It is estimated that close to 250,000 Kenyans are completely blind while about 750,000 are visually impaired.
The system works through the connecting your phone to the Dot Watch. The Dot Watch is a braille-based smartwatch that translates text notifications to braille. This allows the visually to conveniently interact with smartphones.
In addition to that the watch allows the user to check the who calling, check time and even synchronize their calendar.
However, the Dot Watch costs approximately Ksh. 25.000, a price that might be a bit too steep, especially for those in need.
