Data coming from the Communication Authority of Kenya points to Kenya’s mobile penetration rate edging towards 100%.
By the end of June 2018, the Kenyan mobile penetration rate grew by an impressive 13.2% to reach an 98%.
What this means is that roughly about 98% of the Kenyan population have a mobile subscription. This number however, includes those who have more than one subscription.
The report also revealed that 1.4 million new mobile subscriptions activated in the period in June. This is about a 100,000 increase when compared to the previous quarter.
Unsurprisingly, 97.4% of the subscriptions were prepaid with the remaining being postpaid prescription. This is primarily due to the convenience and ease of use of the prepaid subscriptions over the postpaid ones.
