Google is reportedly working a simplified file sharing feature that will allow Android users to share files with other Android smartphones as well as a range of smart devices such as iPhones and Chromebooks.
This is according to a leak that first appeared on 9to5Google. It appears that Google is going to axe Android Beam, a now obsolete NFC-based method for file transfers, and replace it with Fast share.
The service has an interface that is similar to Files by Google but it’s functionality is modelled from Apple’s AirDrop feature.
Sending large files in between phone has often been complicated affair as you often have to rely on third-party applications. The decision to bake this feature into the next version of Android is pretty exciting especially for those who use multiple devices.
It will be great if Android share will be able to support sharing of files between smartphones and Window PCs. This will solve a very painful problem that affects millions of Android smartphone users.
9to5Google wrote a comprehensive guide about how the feature works and you should check that out if you need more info about Fast Share.
