OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi have created an alliance to develop to solve one of the most common pain points with using Android devices, a wireless file transfer.

The tool is expected to use Bluetooth low energy (LE) and is expected to have file transfer speed of up to 20 MB/S. The service will allow users to send  a range of multimedia files as well as well folders between smartphones from the three brands.

File transfer is one of the biggest challenge when using Android. Apple has AirDrop which is an excellent file transfer tool that allows you to share file between two devices.

Android on the other hand lacks such a tool and you have to rely on third party file transfer apps that do now always work as expected. The new file transfer protocol is therefore, a great concept.

OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi are some of the biggest smartphone brands on the market and thus the alliance will have an impact. It will be interesting to see if other smartphone vendors will join in and make the protocol a standard.

The news about the alliance comes just a couple of weeks after Samsung partnered with Xiaomi to launch a 100MP camera sensor.
