Sharing your Wi-Fi password with a lot of people is usually a tedious task. You have the option of telling people the password, but you have less power over who connects to your network. It also forces you to create a simple password which lowers the security of your network.
Typing it yourself is more secure but it becomes inconvenient and annoying if there are multiple devices. If you’re lucky enough and have a device running on Android 10, you can easily share the password via QR code.
This is by far the easiest and most secure way to share your password. Although, it has its downsides since someone has to physically hold their phone over another to scan the code. This could be challenging in the middle of a crowded room.
Thanks to Google, they are working on a much easier way and still guarantee network protection. Google, through Nearby share, seeks to configure the “share Wi-Fi” page to display a Nearby share button that enables the user to share the QR code with a nearby peer.
Since Nearby share works when devices are near, there is no need for physical contact or scanning any codes. This means you can share your Wi-Fi password across the room.
Details on the feature are not yet certain if it will appear on Android 12 but we will update the article in case of any changes.
