The US government has finally settled on a decision to remove Xiaomi from the US blacklist.
According to a filing in the US courts, the US Defense Department has now agreed that a final order dropping Xiaomi out of the blacklist “would be appropriate.”
“The Parties have agreed upon a path forward that would resolve this litigation without the need for contested briefing,” the filing further adds.
It’s uncertain whether the removal comes with any conditions at all, however, both parties are negotiating specific terms and a joint proposal is in the works to be filed before May 20.
This news comes as a relief for Xiaomi who were blacklisted back in January by the Trump administration. The Chinese firm was accused of being a “Communist Chinese Military Company” and could not receive any investments from US citizens.
Xiaomi insisted it was an independent publicly-traded company and won a temporary halt on the ban after suing in February.
The Chinese brand has not yet commented on the news but things are starting to look up. Their shares have already rallied as much as 6.7% in Hong Kong trading today.
