The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE turned out to be a big hit in 2020. The idea of making a sequel was a guarantee for Samsung. However, recent events have partly snuffed out Samsung’s plans for their next value for money edition smartphone.
Rumors placed the smartphone’s debut in August this year, but a new report claims the S21 FE launch could be in trouble due to the global chip shortage.
The since-deleted report claimed Samsung had stopped all production of the Galaxy S21 FE due to a shift in the supply of Qualcomm chips to its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 foldables.
“Samsung has allocated Qualcomm APs [application processors – ed] to foldable phones and suspended the FE model because there are not enough semiconductors,” a section of the report stated.
It’s not entirely clear why the report was deleted but known tipsters claim that battery could also be another reason for suspension.
Samsung acknowledged the report and spoke to Bloomberg, “While we cannot discuss details of the unreleased product, nothing has been determined regarding the alleged production suspension.”
The statement could be viewed as confirmation of the issue to an extent, but the vague wording leaves room for interpretation. We’ll have to wait for an official statement from Samsung to know what fate lies for the Fan Edition smartphone.
