Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, five months after the chipset manufacturer unveiled the flagship 8 Gen 1 SoC. The new midrange option SoC brings several firsts including a dedicated AI Engine, up to 200MP image capture, and Android Ready SE for digital keys, IDs and mobile wallets like Infinix’s .
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor is based on a 4nm process and packs eight cores. Four Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.4Ghz and four Cortex-A510 cores. It also comes equipped with the Adreno 662 GPU that’s 20% faster than its predecessor.
The new chipset features an X62 5G modem capable of 4.4Gbps download speeds and dual 5G connectivity. Alongside this, it supports Wi-Fi6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and can handle up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM.
The 7 Gen 1 supports either 60Hz QHD+ or 144Hz FHD+ displays. In terms of photography, it supports a single 200MP sensor, 64+20MP dual cameras, and 25MP triple cameras.
Qualcomm has confirmed that several midrangers from brands like Xiaomi and Honor will be powered by the new processor. The devices are expected to arrive sometime in H2, 2022. For now, the OPPO Reno8 will be the first phone to come equipped with the said SoC launching on May 23rd.
