Samsung is reportedly working on launching a Tizen Smartphone in India by December 2015. If the rumors turn out to be accurate, this will be the first time for the South Korean Smartphone vendor to make India its launch destination.
The plan to make India the launch pad for the Tizen Smartphone has been seen by some industry watchers as a move that will give the company a tighter grip over the Indian Smartphone market. The Indian Smartphone market is one of the largest on the planet and the meteoric rise of local smartphone vendors threatens the leadership position that Samsung currently enjoys in India.
Information about the Tizen Smartphone is a bit scanty and what is currently known is that the Smartphone will have a 4-inch display, sport a 3.2 MP Rear Camera, and have 512 MB RAM. The Tizen Smartphone is expected to have a price tag in the range between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000.
Samsung when reached out for comment on the issue, simply described it as ‘market speculation’, and declined to reveal further details on the Smartphone.
Samsung has been in the recent past been working towards reducing its dependence on the Android OS. Samsung’s Tizen Smartphones could go head to head with Google’s Android One Smartphone.
The re-emergence of the Tizen OS topic comes months after the company launched the Samsung Z in Russia.
