The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus is one of the best Android budget devices in the Kenyan market right now.

It is also one of the latest Samsung entry-level devices and with that comes the boon of the device running Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat) out of the box.

The Galaxy Star 2 Plus has one of the largest displays I have seen on a Samsung budget device.

This is because a 3.5-inch display was pretty much the unofficial standard for most Samsung entry-level devices.

Other than that, the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus offers just the basic display features.

One of the best aspects about the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus is its great design concept.

Previously, Samsung hardly went into details while designing their entry-level devices and this resulted into some rather ugly devices that looked and felt cheap.

This is however different with the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus, as it is clear that looks were of a priority when designing the device.

The Samsung brand has some significant value in Kenya and having that brand on a well-designed smartphone is the ultimate goal for the buyer on a budget.

Sadly, a 1.2 GHz Single-Core Cortex-A7 CPU runs the show. I had expected at least a Dual-Core CPU to power this fine gadget but Samsung thought otherwise. I say this in the context of other closely priced smartphones powered by powerful Quad-Core CPUs.

However, if you check down the specs list you will notice that the Galaxy Star 2 Plus features a Li-Ion 1800 mAh.

This seems out of place considering that the battery will power a single-core CPU. In my opinion, the mismatch was a deliberate move to optimize the battery performance of the device.

The CPU aside, you have 512 MB for multi-tasking and 4 GB internal memory for your Apps and Files plus a slot that can take a 32 GB memory card.

The Galaxy Star 2 Plus runs Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat) out of the box, and that strikes the perfect bargain.

Camera

Rear Camera: 3.15 MP

Secondary Camera: No

LED Flash: No

There is nothing fancy about the camera profile of the Galaxy Star 2 Plus.

You get a 3.15 MP rear camera and no selfie camera. This is clearly a cost-cutting measure to keep the device well within the budget price range.

The battery is one of the core reasons why you should consider purchasing the Galaxy Star 2 Plus. The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 Plus actually has one of the highest capacity battery you will find on any decent budget device.

If you have been following the Global Mobile Tech Trends, you must be aware that Samsung has lost a significant part of its market share especially in emerging Smartphone markets.

New entrants like Xiaomi and local brands such as Tecno Mobile are giving Samsung budget devices a serious run for their cash.

The Galaxy Star 2 Plus isn’t the perfect Smartphone. The device is, however, a fine choice for Samsung fan boys who will not take a second look at any device that lacks the Samsung logo.

Alternatively, the Galaxy Star 2 Plus is a fantastic choice for the buyer whose purchasing decision is largely influenced by the design and the battery performance of a smartphone.
