The Xperia line of smartphones took the world by storm. Sony Mobile has some of the best Smartphones in the Kenyan Market. The Japanese Tech company is renowned for its skilled workmanship plus its ingenuity in industrial design.
Their latest entrant, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, is an interesting device that is all about highlighting the best in hardware and software advancement in a ‘compact’ rather than in a ‘mini’ package.
Unlike other ‘mini’ handsets from other Smartphones manufacturers, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is a stunning phone and has by a large extent the same features as those found in the extremely popular Sony Xperia Z1 handset.
Sony definitely showed that making a ‘mini’ out of a flagship phone doesn’t necessarily mean chopping down on all the cool flagship grade features. It’s all about exploring on ways to get all those awesome features in a smaller frame.
I am getting all excited as I type this review, but i have to quit the techie verbatim.
Here is a comprehensive review of the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.
Display
The Sony Xperia Z1 compact comes with a 4.3 Inches TFT capacitative display. The display is about 0.7 inches smaller than the display on the Sony Xperia Z1. The decrease in the display size, has brought about a drop of about 99 ppi units in screen resolution density.
However, the 341 ppi screen resolution is quite satisfactory considering that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has a 256 ppi screen resolution.
Everything else remains fixed and you should expect the shatterproof and scratch resistant glass just like the one found on its surrogate.
Body
The smaller display of the Z1 Compact resulted in a slightly smaller body frame. The frame measures at about 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm. There is also a massive drop in the weight of the device, with the Z1 Compact weighing at just 137g compared to the Xperia Z1 that weighs about 170g.
Unlike other numerous mid-tier Smartphones, the Z1 compact is all Metal and Glass. We are talking about Aluminum and Toughened Glass; yeah it is all serious business with the Xperia Z1 Compact. This gives the phone a premium look and feel and easily gives the impression of a top of the range device.
Additionally, the Sony Xperia Z1 compact is a certified dust and water-resistant handset. The Z1 compact is available in color variants of White, Black, Yellow and Pink.
Technical Specifications
A Technical strip down of the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact reveals something amazing. The phone has matched the technical specification of the Sony Xperia Z1 to the letter. The device comes with a Quad-core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU backed by a solid 2GB of RAM.
These Tech Specs just changes everything and consequently put the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact high up in the major league with other pricey devices.
Hold on, it actually gets better. The device has 16GB of internal memory and a card slot that can support a 64GB MicroSD. Additionally, the phone comes with Android OS v4.3 (Jelly Bean) out of the box with a planned upgrade to KitKat (Android v4.4.2) in the near future.
All the other Tech bits look robust and make the device to stand out even more. With the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, size doesn’t really matter. It is unbelieveable how a ‘miniature’ device could pack in some of the best specs i have ever seen on a device within the mid-level Smartphone category.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is definitely the first mid-sized handset with exceptional hardware and software aspects.
Camera
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has a 20.7 MP snapper. The camera comes with Autofocus, Touch focus, Image Stabilization and Smile Detection bonus features. Also, don’t forget the LED flash located on the rear side of the device.
Full HD 1080P recording also made its way to the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. I will keep you updated with my thoughts about the Camera and Video quality delivered by the device.
Battery Life
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has a 2300 mAh battery. Battery life on the device is therefore battery stamina is quite impressive.
The Z1 compact can pack in just enough juice to cover you comfortably through a day or two of prudent usage.
