Apple and Samsung dominated the lucrative premium smartphone segment in Q3 2018.
The two tech giants had a combined 82% market share of the segment.
This is according to a market monitor report by Counterpoint Research.
The report further revealed that Apple has a 79% market share in the the segment of the devices priced over $800.
The two brands still hold a market leadership position in the segment in the Middle East and Africa region.
The premium segment is often the most lucrative for smartphone manufacturers due to the healthy margins.
The budget segment on the other hand, is often plagued by razor-thin margins making the segment less profitable for smartphone vendors.
It is for this reason that Apple makes close to 90% of the global smartphone profits despite the hundreds of players in the industry.
