Amazon.com, Inc, second largest E-commerce company on the planet, has been granted a patent for ‘Ear Scanning’ Technology.
What is ‘Ear Scanning’ Technology?
Smartphone vendors are active in minimizing the dependence on the use of PINs, Passwords, and Patterns to secure our smartphones. The use of Biometrics such as Finger Print scanning technology is now commonplace and more revolutionary techniques such as Iris Scanning have popped up.

Amazon, has taken this race to the Ear, the vital organ handles all human auditory functions. Our Ears, just like our fingerprints, are unique. With Ear scanning technology, your smartphone will simply be able to scan your ear and determine if you are the owner of the smartphone.
That’s pretty much how the technology works.
How is ‘Ear Scanning’ Technology relevant?
Smartphone are created for one core purpose, i.e. to make and receive calls. Most vendors have overlooked this core feature and the focus is now on secondary smartphone features.
The most common procedure to accept an incoming call is to simply slide the accept button and place the smartphone on your ear. This means that anyone can receive a call from your smartphone.
With year scanning technology only you will be able to receive calls made to your smartphone. Apart from that, the technology can be used to detect the distance between your ear and your smartphone and automatically adjust the volume of the conversation.
Currently, the practicability of the Ear Scanning technology is limited as it needs to be further refined. It is, however, helpful to know that Amazon already holds the patent for that technology.
