The Fly Mobile Thunder 3 is a budget Android Smartphone that Eurostar unveiled late in 2014. The Fly Mobile Brand is foreign in Kenya and very little is known about the background of the company.
It was until recently that Jumia Kenya, ‘unofficially’ introduced the Fly Mobile Thunder 3 to Kenyans via their Mobile week sale promo.
The device is, however, available in Nigeria, where it launched in December 2014.
Here is what the Fly Mobile Thunder 3 has to offer.
Technical Specifications
Display
Display Size: 4.5 Inches
Display Type: IPS LCD
Screen Resolution: 480 x 854 pixels
Screen Protection: None
The Fly Mobile Thunder 3 boasts of a 4.5-inch display with a 480 x 854 pixels resolution. This is the same display size that you will find of Samsung Galaxy Core Prime and Tecno H6.
A 4.5-inch display is now pretty much the standard for entry-level smartphones. The Mobile Thunder 3 still, however, stands out specifically due to its ultra-low price tag.
Design
Frame Dimensions: 131 x 65.9 x 8.3 mm
Weight: 102g
The Fly Mobile Thunder 3 has a generic candy-bar design featuring some smooth corners. The smartphone in fact looks a lot like a Tecno Mobile device with the core distinguishing feature being just the Fly logo that graces the upper bezel of the device.
The Mobile Thunder 3 is super-light. The device weighs in at just 102g, making it one of the lightest smartphones on the market.
Performance
Operating System: Android 4.4.2 (KitKat)
CPU: 1.3 GHz Quad Core
RAM: 512 MB
Internal Memory: 4 GB
Micro SD: Yes, up to 32 GB
A 1.3 GHz Quad Core powers the Fly Mobile Thunder 3. This is awesome giving the fact that it is often difficult to find such a CPU in a smartphone price under Ksh. 5,000.
It is, however, rather disappointing that the Thunder 3 has a paltry 512MB RAM. 1 GB RAM is now pretty much the standard for entry-level smartphones.
Other than that, you get 4GB of internal storage for your content plus a micro-SD slot (up to 32GB).
Camera
Rear Camera: 5 MP
Secondary Camera: VGA
LED Flash: Yes
The Fly Mobile Thunder 3 has a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA camera for your snapper. A 5 MP camera is an impressive feature, but there is more to capturing high quality photos than just the Mega Pixel size of the camera.
We just do hope the camera will perform well in the real world and not just look good on paper.
Battery and Extras
Battery Capacity: 1650mAh
A 1650mAh battery to powers the Fly Mobile Thunder 3 and this is another highlight of the device.
Extras
Dual SIM
Verdict
The Kenyan Smartphone market is growing at an exponential rate. Vendors are setting camp in the country and Eurostar Fly is latest one.
Its Ksh. 4,999 price tag, gives you an impression that you shouldn’t expect a lot from the smartphone. However, once you go deep into its specs sheet, the Mobile Thunder 3 could actually be a massive hit in the Kenya.
Looking at the Fly Mobile Thunder 3, it is difficult to poke holes at what it has to offer. The smartphones price tag is why most will buy it, its features come in second.
Rivals
Rivals of the Fly Mobile Thunder 3 include the Infinix X507 and Tecno H5
Be awesome and rate the Fly Mobile Thunder 3.
