Google has unveiled Stadia, a cloud based gaming platform that will enable gamers to play and stream games to audiences worldwide.
The platform will also enable developers to create games that will run natively on the platform.
So, what the heck is Stadia?
Gaming is one of the most popular pass time for lots of people. You can choose to game on your smartphone, computer or console. However, there is a hardware limitation when gaming on any of those devices. This brings forth the need to introduce the infinite power of cloud computing to gaming.
That’s where Stadia comes in.
Instead of running games from your smartphone or the PlayStation/XBOX, the games are installed on a powerful data center and all that is required for you to play is an internet connection, a display and a controller.
Speaking of the controller, Google unveiled the Stadia controller. The Stadia controller has a direct connection to a Google data center to minimize instances of lag and also packs a Google Assistant button.
If you think about it, it’s quite an awesome product since it has the potential to make gaming consoles such as Playstation and XBOX redundant. In the perfect Stadia word, all what you will need is just a display.
Stadia is designed to stream the games in 4K (HDR) and you would, therefore, require a strong and stable internet connection for an optimum gaming experience.
So, how can you access it?
Stadia will become available sometime ‘later on this year’. The platform will first debut in the US, UK and later on to the other markets of Europe.
It will be interesting to see if Stadia will be a hit or whether it will run out of STEAM soon after it’s hyped launch.
