The Infinix Zero 5G is a mid-range Android smartphone that was launched in March 2022 and recently became available in Kenya.

We recently acquired the smartphone and used it for a while just to get a feel of what the Zero 5G has to offer.

Now, here at Mobitrends, we’ve prepared a full user review on the device.

Why you should buy the Infinix Zero 5G

  • Powerful performance
  • Great camera system
  • Massive AMOLED display perfect for gaming and media.
  • Elegant design
  • Large battery and Fast charging

Performance

The Zero 5G combines fashion with function as it sports one of the most powerful chipsets around, MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 Master processor.

From the minute you power up the device to navigating through the settings and menus, you can tell the Zero 5G was built with performance in mind.

The level of responsiveness is just impressive. Tasks are done smoothly with no lag. Not to mention it handles all the large apps and heavy performance games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 without a flinch. Plus, no overheating thanks to the heat pipe module 2.0 that monitors the Zero 5G’s temperature.

All these aided by the 8GB RAM capable of expansion to 11GB when you need that extra power to enhance your user experience. And let’s not forget the chipset is 5G enabled meaning faster, longer-range connections.

When playing online, the connection is quite solid and you don’t miss a beep of whatever is happening in the game. It may, however, use up a lot of bundles if you aren’t using Wi-fi. Speaking of Wi-fi the Zero 5G comes with the new Wi-fi 6 that offers about 1.2Gbps connectivity speeds.

What I liked most about the Zero 5G is the clever 5G mode. The feature allows the smartphone to easily switch between Sim-cards automatically depending on the network strength and connectivity speeds.

It was so efficient; I could scroll media platforms like Instagram and Facebook with a constant connection speed without having to switch networks manually.

Design

Straight out of the box, the Zero 5G is breathtakingly beautiful to look at. The curves, sleek edges, and unique Uni-curve design make it look gorgeous.

From the pictures, the Zero 5G seems a bit heavy but on the contrary, this smartphone is really light and slim. Additionally, the subtle texture on the back not only looks amazing but feels good, almost like holding glass.

The smartphone’s body is covered in bezel that not only gives it remarkable grip it but an extra shine to it. Both the power button and volume button are located on the right. On the left side, we have a slot for your dual nano-sim and external micro-SD card.

On the front, we have a punch-hole cutout for the front camera centered on the display. At the top, we have a grille that could double as a secondary speaker for an immersive Dolby Atmos sound-media experience. At the bottom, we have a headphone jack, microphone, and a Type-C USB charging port.

And let’s not forget the contour drop camera design that makes it elegant and futuristic. The Zero 5G’s camera set up and housing fits the phone perfectly. But, don’t expect the phone to lie down flat as it slightly protrudes outwards (just a bit).

Overall, the Zero 5G doubles as both a smartphone and a fashionable accessory.

Display

The Infinix Zero 5G ships with a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with the option of a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate.

The display is visible outdoors even in sunlight, gentle on the eyes at night and the blue light reduction prevents eye fatigue. The 20:9 aspect ratio is large enough for you to binge watch any movie or series.

The 120Hz refresh rate is ideal for the phone especially when scrolling social media or browsing. One fascinating feature about the refresh rate is its subtlety despite the numerous movements and animations it controls. It swiftly opens apps, blurs out everything behind when you pull down the notification bar, highly sensitive when swiping in between apps and everything else.

The phone gives you a display experience to remember. If you were going to use a budget smartphone immediately after getting your hands on the Zero 5G, you’d notice something is missing. The XOS 10 also makes the display clearer and brings out the vivid colors when using the smartphone.

Cameras

The Zero 5G comes with a triple camera setup including a 48MP main camera, a 13MP portrait camera, and a 2MP virtual camera. All the cameras work together to bring balance and depth to images.

What’s fascinating about the Zero 5G’s camera is the 30X Ultra zoom. The camera has the capability of capturing far objects nonetheless with amazing detail.

For photos taken at night, you get a Pro Night style feature, allowing you to take different kinds of night images in the same environment. Selfie enthusiasts weren’t left out either with the 16MP lens upfront, dual flash and enhanced AI that is ideal for selfies and group shots.

Battery

Where the battery is concerned, the Zero 5G lasts a day and even two depending on the usage. And with a full charge, the average user like me can go up to 3 days without having to worry about the smartphone dying on me.

Plus, the 33W fast charging is a bonus as you can just prepare yourself for work or school and pick up the Zero 5G almost fully charged from a low battery percentage.

One battery flaw is that the fast-charge overheats it the battery. I noticed the battery temperature could rise to 37 degrees but it’s understandable considering the short time it takes to charge.

I’d recommend not using the phone during charging and wait a few minutes to because the heat could get a bit uncomfortable to your hands.

Cons of the Infinix Zero 5G
