Jumia had its annual Black Friday sale on Nov 27 and the company has reported a record breaking figure in terms of sales and traffic.
The Jumia Black Friday 2015 was 10 times bigger compared to the figures the company reported for their Black Friday 2014 sale. The promotion was additionally able to pull over 12 times the magnitude of what the leading e-retailer gets on a normal day.
Online shoppers started logging on to Jumia.co.ke minutes before November 27 in order to be among the first to grab deals from the flash sales.
Most of the shoppers (about 55%) accessed the website from their smartphones, a clear indication of the dominance that mobile traffic has on e-commerce in Kenya.
Some of the most sought brands from the sale included Infinix, Bata and Innjoo. About a quarter of the shoppers who accessed Jumia Kenya during the Black Friday sale bought smartphones and related accessories.
Jumia’s customer service worked overtime to answer over 9,000 calls and responded to over 3200 queries on email and social media. Jumia also doubled its delivery logistics team and made the first Black Friday delivery in a rousing 80 minutes.
Most of the company’s pick-up points that include Posta Kenya, Aramex and G4S offices in various parts of the country have remained at peak operations as a result.
