A newly published patent has come up showcasing designs for a Microsoft Arc-like mouse that bends- yeah, you read correctly, it actually bends.
The patent first spotted by a German tech site is listed on Patentscope, a searchable database of international patent applications. The patent describes a wireless mouse that looks a lot like Microsoft’s Arc, but with the ability to bend in half.
According to Microsoft’s illustrations, the mouse will use an expandable shell that would sit on top of a deformable body-for flexibility.

The remarkable hardware would also include a motion tracker and a haptic scroll to compensate for the lack of a physical scroll wheel. However, as with any patent, it’s still uncertain whether this foldable mouse will see the light of day.
The whole idea behind this innovation came from Microsoft, who feel and stated that today’s mice are frequently too bulky and inconvenient (I don’t know about too bulky-the average mouse is 150-200gms, but it is inconvenient).
Microsoft further added that “the lack of an ergonomic design may be uncomfortable to use, especially during travel.” This is still a kind of “what if” situation, so we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Microsoft’s foldable mouse.
