After weeks of speculation, OnePlus has finally announced its collaboration with Hasselblad to improve the OnePlus smartphone’s camera performance. The OnePlus 9 series will be the first smartphones to feature cameras from the partnership.
The company has invested over $150M in a 3-year deal with Hasselblad to improve imaging and user camera experiences. Hasselblad is a leading camera brand known for its renowned iconic camera design and uncompromising image quality.

Hasselblad was responsible for impressive camera shooters like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and accessories like Hasselblad True Zoom found in the Moto Z. These smartphones pioneered the new era of smartphone photography.
While it’s uncertain how this partnership will pay off for OnePlus, it is a huge win especially for a brand that already produces some of the best Android phones around like the OnePlus 8 Pro and its predecessor, the OnePlus 7
For starters, the OnePlus 9 series will include a custom Sony IMX789 sensor which the company claims will be the “largest and most advanced main camera sensor ever on a OnePlus device.” OnePlus further mentions they are working on a 140-degree panoramic sensor and a T-lens coating selfie camera for improved focus.
They also promise a revamped camera system and support for 4K 120FPS and 8K 30FPS video capture.Unfortunately, OnePlus only revealed little tidbits about the 9 series, but we should get more information after the phones are officially launched on 23rd this month.
It will be interesting to see how Hasselblad has taken on mobile imaging considering OnePlus is trying to keep up with the likes of Samsung and Apple.
