Samsung is working on what could be the most affordable 5G smartphone of 2021. This is according to press renders that recently appeared on WinFuture.
The smartphone looks gorgeous and has this fresh design concept that sets it apart from other Samsung mid-range smartphones. The design profile of the smartphone comes out well especially when you consider the placement of the camera plus the unibody design concept.
Other than that, the Galaxy A32 5G is expected to pack a 6.5-inch LCD display, 4GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB as internal storage options. Under the hood, you should expect the smartphone to pack a MediaTek recently launched Dimensity 720 chipset, which is a shift from Samsung’s tradition of using Qualcomm chipsets.
However, it’s understandable why Samsung might prefer to use a MediaTek chipset.
A recent teardown of the iPhone 12 revealed that the 5G modem was one of the most expensive components of the smartphone. Therefore, the choice of a MediaTek chipset is probably about minimising the BOM costs of the smartphone.
5G had emerged as one of the core technologies that have the potential to completely revolutionise connectivity. Locally, Safaricom had begun 5G tests but it recently put its 5G plans on the back burner, and therefore, it could be a while before the first 5G signal goes live in Kenya.
