Apple overtook Samsung in Q4 2016 to become the leading smartphone brand in the world.
A recent strategy analytics report shows that Apple sold about 800,000 smartphone units more than the Samsung and thus achieving a 17.8% market share during that period.
This was rather expected considering that Samsung recalled over 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 devices as a response to the battery issue that affected the smartphone.
It is, however, important to note the Samsung was still the #1 smartphone brand in 2016 having shipped over 309.4 million devices compared to Apple’s 215.4 million smartphones.
Huawei ranks at #3 having shipped 138.8 million devices, Oppo #4 with 84.6 million devices and Vivo at #5 with 71.9 million devices.
