Teens love to text and the time they spend texting on their smartphones has been on a rapid rise.
Researchers took some time to study the texting habits of 400 teenagers and the results of the study were startling.
The study revealed that there was a striking similarity between texting addicts and one of the worst kind of addictions, Gambling. The similarities include being completely unable to stop texting, lying about the amount of time they spend texting and sleep deprivation due to texting.
Minimizing the use of their smartphones could trigger mild withdrawal effects consistent to what you will find with gambling addicts.
The effects of a texting addiction aren’t exactly life threatening but they have the potential to be one if for example when teens text while they are walking. In fact, there is a rapid rise in the number of pedestrian deaths caused by distracting walking, a reason why some countries now have dedicated texting lanes.
Therefore, next time you are on the road try to “pick your head up, put your phone down.”
