It seems everybody wants a piece of TikTok. To that end, Twitter has announced it’s testing a feature that invites people to post video reactions to tweets.
It’s easy to admit this is a very un-Twitterlike choice, although the company has been experimenting with new products quite lately, including the now-retired disappearing tweets feature dubbed Fleets.
Twitter says it’s only testing with a small subset of iOS users who can opt to “Quote tweet with reaction” right from the retweet menu. Tapping it will take you to a screen where you can take a photo or video to put the tweet on top of. You can also choose one from your gallery.
The feature is similar to TikTok’s video replies as well as what Instagram recently adopted for Reels. It makes more sense for Instagram to include the feature, given the way video replies make TikTok feel more interactive and alive.
However, it’s a more of a see-what-sticks product approach for Twitter. Then again, it’s better than no change at all and still hoping for the best.
