A recent report by the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection has revealed that the Xiaomi Mi A1 is amongst the smartphones that exceed the recommended radiation limit.
The Mi A1 (German version) has a radiation level of 1.75W/KG which is some units higher than the maximum safe SAR exposure level of 1.6W/KG (FCC), a lot higher the CAK limit of 0.4W/Kg.
The Mi A1 is one of the most popular Android One smartphones in Kenya.
The other smartphone that was found to exceed the SAR exposure level is the OnePlus 5T (1.68W/KG).
The study also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Note8 emits the least radiation (0.17W/KG). This is together with the Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy A8. Overall, Samsung smartphones emit the least radiation.
There has been a lot of talk on whether exposure to radiation emitted by smartphones can lead to cancer. It is not yet clear on whether radiation emitted by smartphones does indeed increase the risk of someone developing cancerous tumors.
However, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
