Huawei technology has demoted and fined employees $700 (about Ksh. 70,000) for tweeting from an iPhone.
For those not familiar with the incident here is a brief low-down. The official in charge of the Huawei account unfortunately tweeted 2019 new year wishes using an iPhone.
The tweet was picked up by none other than MKBHD, a popular YouTube personality, and to that effect it went viral.
At first Huawei attributed the error to an overseas marketing agency, but it seems the company has decided to apportion the blame to its staff.
It is reported that one of the reprimanded employees is head of the Huawei’s digital marketing. Apart from the demotion and the fine, Huawei has blocked the promotion of the employees until the end of next year.
Well, that sucks.
