The OPPO A5s is a budget Android smartphone that launched early in April 2019. The smartphone is an upgrade of the OPPO A3s.
The smartphone packs a decent technical specification with the highlight being an awesome display profile and powerful battery profile.
The OPPO A5s
At that price point, if you are interested in the A5s you should also check out the Infinix S4 (Ksh. 14,999) and Huawei Y6 Prime 2019 (Ksh. 13,499).
That said, here is the specification review of the OPPO A5s. Be sure to leave your comments below in case you need more info about the smartphone.
Display
Display Size: 6.2 inches
Display Type: S-IPS LCD
Screen Resolution: 720 x 1520 pixels
Screen Resolution Density: 271 ppi
Screen Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 3
The display of the OPPO A5s is probably the core reason why you should consider buying the smartphone. The smartphone offers a large 6.2-inch S-IPS LCD display.
The display has a 720 HD+ resolution and a screen resolution density (a measure of screen sharpness) of 271 PPI. A Corning Gorilla Glass 3 offers the display a layer of protection.
It’s often rare for budget smartphones to feature a corning gorilla glass protection layer and it’s therefore, awesome that OPPO includes the feature on the A5s.
Design
Dimensions: 155.9 x 75.4 x 8.2 mm
Color: Red, Black, Gold, Green
The A5s features the generic OPPO budget smartphone design. So it’s all plastic. Nevertheless, the design of the smartphone is quite good.
The OPPO A5s has this premium look and feel, something that is often elusive on budget smartphones.
Performance
Operating System: Android 8.1 (Oreo)
CPU: 2.3 GHz Octa-core
RAM: 2 GB
Internal Memory: 32 GB
Micro SD: Yes, up to 256 GB
A 2.3 GHz Octa-core CPU powers the OPPO A5s. This is coupled with 2GB of RAM. The performance profile of the A5s is quite weak and the smartphone might struggle to run graphic intensive games and applications.
The A5s offers a 32GB as internal storage and a micro-SD card slot that can support up to 256GB of memory.
The weak point of the A5s is the software. The smartphone runs Android 8.1 out of the box. I think this is totally unacceptable considering that OPPO historically, doesn’t seed software updates to its budget phones and it’s likely that the smartphone will remain stuck with Android 8.1.
On a side note, if the software isn’t a priority to you, let this not stop you from buying the phone.
Camera
Back Camera: 13 + 2 MP
Front Camera: 8 MP
LED Flash: Yes
The OPPO A5s packs a 13+2 MP back camera for general photography and an 8MP front-facing camera for your selfies and video calls.
Battery and Extras
Battery Capacity: Li-Ion 4230 mAh
A Li-Ion 4230 mAh keeps the lights on. That battery capacity is quite good and you can easily squeeze out 48 hours from a single charge while on moderate usage.
Price in Kenya
The OPPO A5s has a suggested retail price of Ksh. 15,999 (tentative).
