TECNO and itel Mobile (brands owned by TRANSSION) have been ranked the best-selling brands in Africa in Q1 2019.
This is according to recent Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report released by the International Data Corporation (IDC). Overall, smartphone shipments to Africa declined by 7.1% and IDC projects that the shipments will further decline by 5.3% in Q2 2019.
Smartphones sold under the TECNO and itel Mobile brands helped TRANSSION secure a 33.1% market share. Samsung is ranked second in the report with a 24.5% market share while Huawei is third with an 11.8% market share.
In addition to this, TRANSSION has a 59.7% market share in the feature phones segment, a commanding lead that is only rivalled by the 9.2% market share held by HMD (Nokia).
It’s noteworthy to mention that IDC projects the increased penetration of 4G LTE devices in Africa. This is attributed to the fall in the prices of entry-level 4G smartphones and the introduction of affordable data plans.
