Smartphones sold under the TECNO and itel Mobile brands helped TRANSSION secure a 33.1% market share. Samsung is ranked second in the report with a 24.5% market share while Huawei is third with an 11.8% market share.

In addition to this, TRANSSION has a 59.7% market share in the feature phones segment, a commanding lead that is only rivalled by the 9.2% market share held by HMD (Nokia).

It’s noteworthy to mention that IDC projects the increased penetration of 4G LTE devices in Africa. This is attributed to the fall in the prices of entry-level 4G smartphones and the introduction of affordable data plans.

Taking into account the recent geo-politics challenges affecting Huawei, it will be interesting to see how the brand performs in Q2 2019.
