Safaricom has unveiled a neat reverse call feature that gives the receiver the option to accept the costs on an incoming call.
The feature targets customers who are willing to incur the calling costs for calls from loved ones. The feature could also be a life saver in times of emergency.
This is how the feature works.
You activate the reverse call feature by adding “#” before the phone number of the person you wish to call.
The recipient of the call receives your phone call and when they pick up they receive an automated voice prompt to key in digit ‘1’ in order to accept the reverse call and consequently incur the cost of the call.
The recipient of the call has to key in ‘1’ in order to accept the call and this means that they can only incur the reverse call cost if they accept to.
The call cost is identical to what it will cost the recipient to make a normal voice call. The reverse call feature however, at the moment only works on Safaricom to Safaricom calls.
The feature is convenient and is a direct alternative to sending ‘Please call me’ text messages.
