The OPPO A9 2020 is one of the latest Android smartphones to hit the Kenyan market. I have been using the smartphone for about three weeks now and here is an overview of some of the best features of the A9 2020.
Camera
Photography is one of the strong points of the A9 2020 and one of the features that will probably tilt your purchasing decision towards the smartphone.
To talk a bit about the camera hardware, the A9 2020 packs a quad camera system with the main camera being a generous 48MP back snapper. The smartphone also packs a 16MP front-facing camera that has an AI beauty mode baked into it.
Those are the stats on paper, so how does the smartphone perform in real life?
Well, the real life camera performance of the A9 2020 is quite good. Let’s dive a bit into the software of the camera. The camera UI is neat and straight to the point. It’s a simple point and shoot affair. The camera option offers three modes, we have the video, photo and portrait modes.
Video Mode
The video option, is as the name suggests, is for videos. The OPPO A9 2020 shoots in 4K resolution, which is pretty awesome especially for those with an ambition to kick off a vlogging career on YouTube :).
Other than that, you get an option to shoot in 1080p Full HD and 720p HD resolutions. All the three modes shoot at the standard 30fps. The video option also has a couple of in-built filter modes.
Photo Mode
The photo mode is at the central point of the UI and is probably the option that you will use the most. It’s also the option with the most toggles. On top of the interface, you get an icon to turn the flash on/off, a HDR Mode, a wide-angle option, a color dazzle toggle and a option to activate the in-built filters.
Under the settings of the Photo Mode, you get the option to map the volume button to activate the shutter or zoom option. You also, get an option to set the photo ratio, an awesome feature if you are a heavy user of Instagram.
The OPPO A9 2020 camera also has a feature to automatically set the watermark for the photographs you have taken, as well as AI scene recognition.
Portrait Mode
Portrait Mode is the feature you use to capture those dope photos where the background is blurred. OPPO made it very simple and straight forward, all you need is to tap on the subject and hit the shutter button to get your awesome portrait photos.
Extras
We saved the best for last. On the bottom left section of the display we have a menu toggle. Under the mode you get Night, Pano, Expert, Time-lapse and Slow-Mo modes. The night mode is perfect for night photography, the Pano for taking panoramic photos of scenery, time-lapse for time lapse videos and Slow-Mo mode for slow motion videos.
Expert mode gives you more controls to adjust the camera hardware, you get the option to adjust the aperture size, white balance, auto focus and the exposure value. The mode is great and is a nice gateway towards becoming a professional photographer.
Gaming
The OPPO A9 2020 is a powerful device.
It packs an octa-core snapdragon chipset and 8GB RAM. The set is quite good and the smartphone was able to run pretty much whatever I threw at it. I spent a lot of time playing PUBG on the smartphone and the performance was stellar, no complaints there.
In addition to the generous hardware profile. The A9 2020 also comes with game space, a utility that optimizes the performance for gaming through giving you an option to push the performance of the smartphone to the optimum limit during gaming, giving you info about the strength of your internet connection as well as giving you an option to block notifications when gaming.
Battery
The OPPO A9 2020 packs a 5000mAh battery. That capacity is quite generous and you will struggle to drain the battery. I was able to squeeze out two days out of the battery while on moderate usage and that was pretty good.
If battery performance is a great priority for you, go for the A9 2020, it will serve you well.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it about the key features of the A9 2020. Be sure to check out our impressions and technical profile articles if you are considering making the A9 2020 your next smartphone.
