Google is rolling out a feature globally that’s supposed to make it easier to search for files in Drive. If you’re a regular Google Drive user, then you may like Search Chips.
Your files in Google Drive are usually arranged by when they were last accessed. While this is great for finding recent files, it could be quite inconvenient when trying to locate a buried document.
This is where Search Chips come in handy. Search Chips are drop-down menus that help you filter through your search to find specific files. You can search through locations, file types, people, modify dates, titles, or tasks to find the files you want.
For instance, click Location, and you’ll get to filter your results by Anywhere in Drive, My Drive, Shared with me, Starred, and Trashed as Google demonstrates in the above GIF.
Previously, Google hid Drive’s more limited collection of search filters within a dropdown tab built into the search bar including Documents, PDFs, Presentations and Spreadsheets.
Search Chips will be available to all Workspace users including Business and G Suite Basic. It’s a nice feature for people who typically use Google Drive regularly considering things can get disorganized pretty quickly.
