OPPO’s Find X5 series is finally here! The series comprises of three devices led by the top-tier Find X5 Pro, which on paper, looks like the complete package.

With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a ceramic build, and a Hasselblad-powered camera, it almost looks like OPPO’s most complete flagship yet.

Some may say it’s also a genuine rival to the S22 Ultra, which it is. The regular Find X5 and the Find X5 Lite are also impressive options too with incredible profiles. Whichever the case, it seems OPPO’s latest flagship offers something for everyone.

Since there are three devices, we’ll focus on the Pro first, and then do exhaustive articles on the Find X5 and the Lite.

The first thing you notice about the Find X5 Pro is the similar outlandish design adopted from the Find X3 Pro. The curved camera module is still the same, but now with an even stranger irregular design.

There is a slant at the bottom, where your finger sits when holding the handset. The reason for this being the X5 Pro has a ceramic body instead of glass which is much more long-lasting but quite heavy (218g), hence the slant design on the rear.

Inside the smartphone, the X5 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset coupled up with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone arrives with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12.

On to the front, the new Find X5 Pro sports a 6.7” AMOLED display with a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.

Impressively enough, the device can multitask two apps, one operating on one side of the screen at 1Hz, and ramping up to 120Hz on another part of the display.

Before we talk about the battery, let’s shift our focus to the triple rear camera setup on the X5 pro. Just like before, you get a dual primary camera set up, with the same 50MP sensor used on both the main lens and ultrawide shooter.

The main camera brings benefits like 5-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) for clearer images while the ultrawide comes with a freeform lens that reduces distortion in pictures and videos.

The X5 Pro comes with the same 13MP telephoto sensor while up front, you get a 32MP camera lens for selfies.

You may have also noticed the Hasselblad logo on the back. Hasselblad is a camera company that has already partnered with OPPO’s subsidiary OnePlus on the 9 Pro and even the 10 Pro, so it’s no shock they partnered with OPPO too.

On the Find X5 Pro, Hasselblad mainly contributes on software including a Pro mode, some color filters, an XPAN mode with a unique 65:24 aspect ratio, and Hasselblad’s distinctive shutter sound.

You might have also seen the MariSilicon branding on the camera. This refers to OPPO’s first in-house chip dubbed MariSilicon X NPU designed to assist with advanced image processing.

Rather than relying on the Snapdragon chip, OPPO decided to build its own standalone chip to enhance the X5 Pro’s photography experience, and the MariSilicon X does just that.

It greatly improves dynamic range (four times broader than what the Find X3 Pro offers), along with the ability to run AI noise reduction algorithm 20 times faster than the X3 Pro currently can.

A 5000mAh battery that supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging keeps the lights on the Find X5 Pro. It also comes with 50W AirVOOC (wireless charging).

The smartphone can go from 0-50% in 12 minutes on wired charging and can do a full charge in 47 minutes wirelessly.

The Find X5 Pro has not yet arrived in the Kenyan market, but pre-orders have started with a $1,499 (roughly Ksh. 170,515) price tag. Open sales are expected to begin on March 14.
