Sales of Android Go devices appears to be picking up quite well. Android Go, which is one of the core apps of the OS, has hit 100 Million+ downloads on the Play Store.

For those not familiar with Android Go, here is a brief low-down.

Have you ever used a slow Android smartphone? The kind that pushes you to the edge when it takes more than five minutes just to load WhatsApp?

Well, one of the reason behind the performance issue is the use of inadequate memory (RAM). In most instances, such devices have less than 1GB RAM. The full version of Android struggles to run on low memory devices.

Due to this, Google unveiled Android Go, a lite version of Android that is stripped down to the basic.

Android Go performs well in devices with <1GB RAM, devices that are still popular in emerging smartphone markets such as ours.

TECNO, Nokia and Samsung are some of the brands that have spurred the penetration of Android Go.

Some of the popular Android Go smartphones on the market include the Samsung Galaxy A2 Core, Xiaomi Redmi Go and itel P33.
