A recent build that popped up on the recent documentation for the next build of iOS points to Apple working on Truly Wireless (TW) Beats Studio Earbuds.
Back in 2014, Apple acquired Beat Electronics, which was at the time one of the hottest audio tech companies in the segment. The move appears to be Apple’s move to capitalize on what is still one of the most recognized audio brands on the market.
Truly wireless headphones have been all the rage and quite popular especially with the recent unfortunate trend by smartphone vendors to kill the 3.5mm headphone output port.
The Beat Studio earbuds have a design that is completely different from the AirPods which is probably a deliberate move to position the product as an alternative to the AirPods.
Apple is the market leader when it comes to truly wireless headphones albeit its dominance has declined from a high of 62% of market share in 2019 to 29% in 2020. The decline was fueled by the intensive competition in that segment.
OPPO also recently unveiled a set of truly wireless headphones.
Apple is traditionally extremely secretive about its future product roadmap.
However, with the leak of the Beats Studio earbuds originating from an official company source, it’s probably that the company will be launching the earbuds before the end of the year.
