OPPO Mobile sent the tech part of the web into a mini frenzy when it posted a demo of a prototype smartphone that packed an under-the-display selfie camera.
The demo was quite exciting since it was now evident that OPPO had solved a design challenge that has so far made it a pain for consumers to enjoy a full-screen experience.
OPPO is expected to unveil the feature in the coming weeks and probably due to that, the company has issued some sort of a warning that we shouldn’t be too excited about the tech.
The quality of the image from the first generation cameras is likely to not be so impressive. This is due to a number of factors that include the clarity of the display and the effect that scratches and smudges will have on the quality of the captured images.
This was largely expected as it if often rare for tech companies to get an emerging technology right the first time.
It is however, possible that OPPO or other smartphone vendors will be able to refine the technology and introduce iterations that will make the tech ready for the mass consumer market.
