Google makes anti-digital addiction tools an Android requirement

Google has made it a requirement for smartphone vendors to include anti-digital addiction tools in their existing or future smartphones that run Android 9.0 or Android 10.

The smartphone vendors will now be required to pre-install Google’s Wellbeing app on their smartphones, an app that helps with managing digital habits.

Smartphone/Digital addiction is an emerging issue that is characterized by the excessive usage of smartphones especially among minors.

The Wellbeing app packs a number features that helps limit the time spent on a smartphone as well features that helps to minimize the urge to use your smartphone at night.

The Wellbeing app also has built-in parental controls that help control the amount screen time children on their smartphones. Additionally, it packs a focus mode that will automatically disable the use of certain apps during a specified time.

The wellbeing app will come either in the form of a software update or as part of the pre-installed apps on your next Android smartphone.
