Infinix Hot 8 Unboxing

The Hot 8 is the latest Infinix smartphone to hit the market. The smartphone packs an impressive technical specifications profile with one its highlight being a 5000mah battery.

That battery capacity is quite big and is a massive upgrade from the 4000mah battery that powered its predecessor, the Infinix Hot 7. With that capacity, you can expect larger than life battery performance especially for the moderate user.

So, how does the battery perform in real life?

We ran a battery test on the Infinix Hot 8 using the GeekBench benchmarking app. The app tested the Infinix Hot 8 battery stamina and recorded how long it took to drain the battery from 100% to 0%.

The parameter we used was to recharge the battery to 100%, the turn on all connectivity options (WiFi, Bluetooth) and then we switched off the auto brightness mode and let the battery drain until the smartphone went off.

11hrs 16 minutes

The test showed that it took about 11hrs and 6 mins to completely drain the battery. That’s a rate of about 0.15% per minute.

We simulated the most extreme conditions and therefore, we can easily predict that the smartphone will be able to last between 16 to 24 hours while moderate usage and possibly up to two days when conservatively using the smartphone.

By moderate usage we imply auto brightness turned on and using the smartphone to run basic apps and games.

Also, to expound the results of the experiment a bit, it took around 8 hours to drain the battery from 100% to 20% and we could therefore, infer that the Hot 8 could easily take you through the day and still have enough battery juice remaining when you retiring for the day.

This is particularly beneficial to those who might not have the time to recharge their smartphones during the day.

Battery Saving

In addition to the battery capacity, the Infinix Hot 8 has a number of battery saving utilities baked into the software. You have an AI battery saving mode that can automatically help you to conserve battery life.

Related tests

It appears that it’s pretty much guaranteed that the Infinix Hot 8 will give you at least 16 hours of battery life. This is from similar tests that were done by Techweez, Tech-ish and Tech Arena. The tests focused on simulating a moderate usage of the smartphone.

Charging Speed

The downside of having a large capacity battery is that it will take time to recharge the battery. The Infinix Hot 8 doesn’t support fast charging and thus it takes around 2 hours to completely recharge the battery.

The stock charger has a maximum output of 2000mAh but in my tests had an average output of 1000mAh

This is no biggie if you are the type that recharges their smartphone overnight but a huge pain to those who are accustomed to the convenience of fast charging.

Conclusion

Overall, the Infinix Hot 8 performed really well in the battery test and is your best bet if you are shopping for something that goes and keeps on going.

Update: The Infinix Hot 8 (32+3GB) is now available online on Jumia. Check it out!
