Instagram is working on a new way to view stories; inspired by TikTok

Instagram, over the years, has made it clear they are not afraid of trying new things. They tweak and try new features and their latest idea is developing a feature called “Vertical Instagram Stories.”

According to a tweet by developer Alexander Paluzzi, the feature enables you to swipe up and down to browse stories. The developer says the feature is not yet live and that he found it while examining Instagram’s back-end code. So, it may never be released to the general public.

Instagram does come up with great ideas but this doesn’t feel like one of them. First of all, the current design which is scrolling stories horizontally has always been efficient and easy to use.

Besides, the interface looks great and users can identify the social network with the format. If they add this, it won’t be much of a difference to TikTok.

Also, the app has all sorts of places for users to publish their videos including the feed, IGTV content, and TikTok’s rival Reels. The “swipe up” feature will also have to get tweaked to fit the new system.

Overall, this feature doesn’t seem practical and could add to Instagram’s clutter. If Instagram does decide to venture into the idea, it would be better to make it an option for users to choose between horizontal and vertical views.
