Turn down for what? Android TV now runs on soundbars

The-JBL-LINK-BAR

JBL have through a collaboration with Google unveiled the first soundbar that runs Android TV OS. The JBL LINK BAR is the first of its kind and it’s now the coolest way to turn your ‘dumb’ TV into a smart one.

If you are not familiar with Android TV, that’s totally okay, Android TV is still an emerging tech especially in our country. Here is a brief low-down.

We have the normal TVs and smart TVs. Smart TVs have operating systems, the same way that your laptop runs the Windows OS. Android TV is an operating system designed to run on smart TVs.

The obvious advantage of the Android TV is that you have access to millions of apps available on the play store as opposed to let’s say WebOS that runs on LG TVs. The sound bar connects to your TV via a HDMI port.

The bar gives us access to Google Play, Google Assistant, has chrome-cast built in and you can as well use it to control other smart devices in your home.

With the soundbar, Google and JBL have solved the two common problems with the turning your TV into a smart TV i.e Running a stable smart TV OS and getting high-quality audio out of your TV.

The best thing is that the soundbar is priced at around Ksh. 42,000 ($400) which is around what you pay for a normal mid-range soundbar.

With the first Android TV sound bar now out, you can expect more vendors to launch theirs soon. Ultimately, this will make Android TV boxes obsolete.
