The Nokia G21 is a budget Android smartphone that was launched in February 2022 and recently became available in Kenya.

The sequel to the Nokia G20 comes with a modest technical profile and some nice improvements to the battery, screen, and camera.

It also showcases a stunning design different from its predecessor that’s slimmer and better looking. That said, here is what the Nokia G21 has to offer.

Key Specs of the Nokia G21

Display

Display Size: 6.5-inches

Display Type: IPS LCD

Screen Resolution: 720 x 1600 pixels

Screen Resolution Density: 270 ppi

The Nokia G21 sports a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display running at up to 90Hz, certainly an upgrade from the G20 and a first for the G-series.

Another first for the series is that it can stream Netflix in HD since the display still has a 720p+ resolution.

Quick sidenote on the display, if you want to enjoy longer battery life, you should enable adaptive mode for the display so that it can drop to a 60Hz refresh rate.

Design

Dimensions: 164.6 x 75.9 x 8.5mm

One of the key changes the G21 has adopted different from its predecessor is its design. Instead of a round-shaped camera island on the back, the Nokia G21 sports a rectangular one with rounded edges.

And not only has the design changed, but HMD also managed to make the phone slimmer by 5%, going from 9.2mm to 8.5mm. The new model will come in two color options; Nordic Blue and Dusk.

Performance

Operating System: Android 12

CPU: 1.6Ghz Octa-core

RAM: 4GB

Internal Storage: 64/128GB

Micro SD: Yes

Under the hood, the G21 comes powered by the Unisoc T606 chipset clocking at 1.6Ghz. Not as powerful or popular as other chipsets, but it should get the job done.

Memory options include 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Honestly, the RAM is quite low considering other smartphones in the segment offer 6GB or more.

Nokia claims the handset will come running Android 12 out of the box. Hopefully, the company does keep its word as it has been recently lacking in terms of software updates.

Overall, the Nokia G21 is a proper device for running all your standard apps and games.

Camera

Rear Camera: 50+2+2MP

Selfie Camera: 8MP

LED Flash: Yes

Nokia has put more attention to the camera this time around and is arguably the G21’s unique selling proposition. For general photography, you get a 50MP lens, a 2MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Upfront, you have an 8MP snapper. Of course, it also comes with cool software features including Super Resolution and Night Mode.

Battery

Battery Capacity: Li-Po 5050mAh

A Li-Po 5050mAh battery that supports 18W charging keeps the lights on the Nokia G21. It should last two to three days depending on usage.
