Samsung is rumored to be working on the launch of an affordable 5G Android smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is expected to become available sometime in June and it will be one of the most affordable 5G smartphones on the market.

The launch of 5G smartphones has been in vogue and this is especially in developing markets since 5G smartphones provide an opportunity for vendors to grab a piece of the new market.

Locally, 5G internet made a debut in Kenya through Safaricom though it has yet to gain adequate traction due to a hardware limitation since most smartphones in the country are 4G enabled.

From the renders that leaked online, the Galaxy A22 5G is a decent phone with the right looks and a relatively impressive entry-level technical profile to match. The smartphone is expected to pack an AMOLED display, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a rear quad camera set-up as the primary camera.

In addition to this, MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 chipset will power the smartphone. The chipset is optimized for 5G connectivity and has support for 90Hz displays, another feature that has been popping up in a lot of the recently launched smartphones.

Regarding the pricing piece, Samsung is expected to position it in the Ksh. 15,000 to Ksh. 20,000 price segment. It’s still not certain whether Samsung will launch the smartphone in Kenya.

However, the smartphone will be available in India, and historically, some smartphones that have launched in India also soon become available in Kenya especially in the gray market.

The news of the impending launch of the Galaxy A22 5G comes just a couple of weeks after Samsung hinted that it could delay the launch of the next Galaxy Note device due to a global IT chips shortage.
