Samsung Galaxy S10e | Features Review

Samsung-Galaxy-S10,-S10+,-S10e

The Samsung Galaxy S10e is the budget variant of the S10 range and will be probably the smartphone that most who are out shopping for a premium smartphone while on a budget will go for.

The Galaxy S10e in itself is quite an awesome device and its highlight include a powerful performance profile as well as an equally impressive display profile.

That said, here is what the Samsung Galaxy S10e has to offer.

Performance

Operating System: Android 9.0 (Pie)

CPU: 2.7 GHzOcta-core

RAM: 6/8 GB

Internal Memory: 128/256GB

Micro SD: Yes, up to 512GB

The performance profile of the S10e is probably the reason why Samsung wants you to buy the smartphone. A 2.7 GHzOcta-core chipset powers the Galaxy S10e. This is coupled with either 6 or 8 GB of RAM.

Speaking of the CPU, there is an Exynos 9820 and a Snapdragon 855. The Kenyan (African) version will have the Exynos 9820. The chipset is no joke as it is optimized by default to run graphic intensive mobile games as well support seamless online gaming.

About the gaming part, the Galaxy S10e is optimized for the Unity based games. The smartphone is, therefore, just right for the mobile games who is after an awesome gaming experience. Also, the good thing about the S10e being gaming centric is that, it means that it’s also perfect for running intensive apps Snapchat and the like.

Let’s talk about the memory. You get to choose between 128/256 GB as internal storage. I have a 128GB smartphone and once you get used to such a capacity, there is no way you are going back to using anything less than that.

There S10e also gives you an option to expand the memory with a card slot that can handle up to 512GB of memory.

On the software side, the smartphone runs Android 9.0 out of the box and will most definitely receive the Android 10 once it launches. Wait, it would have been awesome if the S10 smartphones ran Android 10 out of the box, S10 – Android 10, get it?

Display

Display Size: 5.8 inches

Display Type: Dynamic AMOLED

Screen Resolution: 1080 x 2280 pixels

Screen Resolution Density: 438 PPI

Screen Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass 5

The display is the critical component that determines the overall smartphone experience since it’s the primary input channel.

The S10e display doesn’t disappoint. You get a 5.8-inch 1080 x 2280 pixels Dynamic AMOLED display. The display has a 438PPI screen resolution density and on top of it you will find the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection layer.

The S10e however, lacks something the rest of the S10 devices have, an in-display fingerprint sensor. Instead the phone has the fingerprint sensor is tucked on the side on top of the power button, just like the Samsung Galaxy J6+.

An in-display screen sensor is totally cool, right? But I don’t think the feature missing on the Samsung Galaxy S10e is a major deal breaker, you can live with it.

Design

Dimensions: 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9 mm

Camera

Rear Camera: 12+16 MP

Secondary Camera: 10 MP

LED Flash: Yes

The Samsung Galaxy S10e offers a 16+12 MP Rear camera for general photography and a 10 MP camera for your selfies.

Battery and Extras

Battery Capacity: Li-Ion 3100 mAh

A Li-Ion 3100 mAh battery keeps the light on. This is a major pain point since gaming on a smartphone that has a battery will <4000 mAh battery is annoying. I don’t know why Samsung did this, bill of material reasons maybe?

Price in Kenya

The Samsung Galaxy S10e has a suggested retail price of Ksh. 78,999 in Kenya.
